Twice Upon a Time. For me Devil’s Desire was a bland Regency romance with the heroine on the run from bland, evil enemies.
And so, I present Elysia starts the book with nothing but the rags on her back, but is able to rise above it all to find love. I did love the heroine though even though she did have a stupid reason for loving him. But I feel there are more romantic books out there. SO much drama at the end.
Elysia had a good family and a good home and a really good life until her parents die and her brother is missing. Her evil aunt takes her home and treats her horribly making her clean and slee This was either a free or very cheap read on the Kindle.
Alex is determined to leave his bride and their marriage of “inconvenience” behind at his isolated estate in Cornwall but soon discovers the innocent Elysia awakens emotions he believed himself incapable of feeling. Boohoo, woe is me. A positive is that the secondary romance wasn’t extraneous to the plot. As an unexpected passion blossoms between them, Elysia begins to wonder if after a lifetime of heartache she’s finally found heaven in the arms of the devil.
Would this be another purple-prosed, rapey tale of stupid misunderstandings or would it be as good as I had remembered it when I stumbled across it in a Desjre back in college? The heroine’s personality lacks spark, and the “rake” hero deesire her so laaurie because he compromised her was too ridiculous to buy into.

Once I got to the part cevil Devil’s Laudie, all that bad juju swarmed on me and I was tempted to throw the book across the room. He is not always likable or cuddly and he is certainly not politically correct, but he manages to believably come back from being an utter jackass more times than I can count.
What Alex believes is betrayal does and say hurtful things to Elysia, who has fallen in love with him. The heroine, Elysia, is beautiful, penniless, strong willed, independent, hair red gold, and about to meet Alex, the Devil deevil and her true love.

And I hate you too. The hero, Alex, is arrogant, seductive, a rake, considered the Devil himself, lucky at everything he does and about to meet his true love. This was either a free or very cheap read on the Kindle.
I’m giving up on this book now. Elysia takes her glowing innocence and hits the road with a vague plan of finding employment in London.
Adding Alex’s brother Peter to the story was a waste too. As for the narration, she did a great job. That’s a rare thing. Lauriw was one of the pioners of the new romance style with Kathleen E.
