Black Unicorn (Tanaquil, book 1) by Tanith Lee
Though the book is called “Black Unicorn”, the magic is mature and even refreshing. Unicorn fans and people who enjoy peeking into other worlds. This is the kind of book that gives YA a good name.
This can be a good thing, yes, but here, I think it was the author’s weak point rather than intention. Set up a giveaway. Lists with This Book. Fantasy at its finiest this imagintive series is on a par with Pullman’s His Dark Materials.
As she contemplates leaving once again when a red unicorn appears, and she follows it into a mirror where she finds a world that exact opposite of her own, complete with a version of herself named Tanakil.
Taniquil finds herself transported to a charming but absurd world.
I’m rereading this series that I read in high school because I remembered liking them, but I couldn’t remember what they were about, exactly. You won’t regret it.
A wonderfully well written story for all fans of fantasy to read and enjoy.

Sometimes the narrative style feels lyrical, nlack sometimes it feels disjointed and broken. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Still really easy to read and I think it only took me two nights, but I had this vaguely uncomfortable feeling that the author kept suffering from writer’s block and just put words down on a page to see how they looked.
I’m a big Tanith Lee fangirl, but some of her work is better than some of her other work. Despite those relatively minor flaws this seems like an excellent starting place. If you have read my other reviews of this series I have suggested that you read the gold unicorn first and then the black unicorn, unicogn that was what I did.
Several events which unfold are forced, unnatural to the characters, or utterly predictable. I had high hopes started out with none for this story as you get a First book I’ve ever read by Lee, and ultimately I have to say it made me curious about her other works. Goodreads helps uniorn keep track of books you want to read.
Clever, intelligent, and highly feeling all at once. Some writers might have made her grateful just to have witnessed it or whatever, but Lee imagines what it would be tanirh to be denied that, and I like the way Tanaquil deals with it.
