When Vasilisa is forced to live in the house of the witch Baba Yaga, the only thing that keeps her from a miserable fate is her own kindness and purity, along with the love of her long-dead mother, represented by a magical doll. So, even though we read them to children, they are really symbolic of struggles that adults have in every day life.

I really like the different tales of Baba Yaga but I felt that this one was redundant, just another Cinderella tale, and I honestly felt disappointed after bab it.
