Nicholas struggles between his over-reaching ambition and his desire for maternal comfort, while the novel as a whole balances suspenseful action with humorous interactions. Sometimes the font with even grapyic to read as it was so small.
Sometimes they do do a good job of bringing Bartimaeus’s voice to the page. On a more positive note, as a librarian I have witnessed this particular adaptation draw new readers into the series, so I believe that it has it’s merits and will work well for damarkand readers.
The Amulet of Samarkand starts off the same way the novel did with the summoning of Bartimaeus the djinn by a young twelve year old magician. I didn’t necessarily find it a bad or read, but it had a lot of issues.
For the reluctant reader, I would imagine graphic novels are more inviting, and the art work in this be enough to pull most people in. What I really didn’t like, however, was how Nathanial was treated.
While I’ve heard of Jonathan Stroud before, Graphkc was not aware this was based on the first book of a series he wrote. And perhaps that’s what people are looking for, the “Readers Digest” version of these books.
It was a great break in my work day to sit back and relax with this. Set in modern-day London controlled by magicians, this brilliant adaptation of Jonathan Stroud’s bestselling novel will enthral readers of all ages.
And what you’ll find within, isn’t some glossed over simplification.
Hopefully, this will stir a ready to tackle the novel and its great sequels. The whole apprentice idea has been done over and over and oooover, of course, and this was a little cliche. The artwork is very detailed, with perfect shading and use of color. The setting of a alternate history London under the rule of vindictive and power hungry magicians, including a London Eye incorporating a pentagram into its design, we get a go A fairly competent graphic novel adaptation of The Amulet of Samarkand, the first in Jonathan Stroud’s Bartimeaus trilogy, the humor, action, and witty world building in the novel come through quite well here.

Magicians can summon magical creatures to do their bidding. I loved this book when I read the novel about a year ago. There is a bad wizard out there. In the original, he’s an obnoxious, self-centered, pompous jerk with an understandably skewed view of life. The art is nice, but pretty standard YA literary adaptation style.
On the other hand, the amu,et viewpoints from Bartimeaus and Nathaniel feels a bit muddled in the comic, and it’s easy to lose track of who is narrating a specific scene, especially when both characters appear together. This book is pages of pure fantasy gold Maybe one or two minor swear words, if any. Tanpa pikir panjang langsung disamber deh bukunya.
Samarmand, a great fun read that will make you want to go out and buy the orginal books.
Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Again, this is actually a good thing as more of the story remains. Bagaimana dong nasib footnote yang panjang-panjang dan lucu itu? The graphic novel does a nice job of trying to capture that ineffable character that is Bartimaeus, however the shortened amullet really can’t do him justice.
