Historians are not quite sure exactly why they missed work brigetock there penitader a few good guesses. Bennett does this by examining the court records of a small town in Brigstock and creating a convincing biography for an unmarried peasant and small businesswoman of the early fourteenth century.
It’s quite short, but it packs a lot of information in its less than pages. In the following chapter, w e learn about the relationship of peasants to their parish church and their clergy, and, in some detail, about the significance of and ritual associated with the important medieval holy days. This truly unique book offers a wealth of insight into medieval penfader society, bringing many of the characteristics of a time and a people to life. Cecilia was involved in the economic system known as manorialism. The book is written in a style which most students will enjoy, although challenging enough to be of value to the more advanced as well as the beginner.
With a similar breadth of material and explanation, Bennett goes on to examine the Great Famine ofthe meanings of kinship and household at different life-cycle stages, marriage and inheritance, the household economy and the importance of the land market in peasant economic strategies.
